Intentional movement for your brain
Novelty Dots exercises have you interacting with a Dot or Dots, synchronised to a metronome.
Having attention on a task with an external rhythm provides the brain with novelty and complexity, which increases the energy and the areas of the brain required to complete them accurately.
If repeated, over time, it can create changes within the brain.
David once explained to me how the brain can help you match finger tapping to a metronome.
As someone who has always loved being active, I was surprised at how hard it was to copy what he showed me.
By the next time I trained with him, he’d created some ‘ticking’ exercises on a tablet for me to try and copy.
From then on, there seemed to be a new design of dots I’d be asked to try and copy.
With the benefits to my balance and reactions (my favourite, as they make me laugh) the tablet exercises have become a weekly part of my training.
I believe in these exercises so much that I even offered to invest if he needed help.
It is amazing to think our chat about finger movements has been a part in David creating Novelty Dots.
I can have a habit of jumping into exercises like a Jack Russel (100% energy and 20% concentration), so having to match the timing of my movements with what the screen is doing definitely improves my attention to accuracy and control of my movement.
They've added some fun in finding new challenges for my post-football battered body.
As a now football coach, I can already see how these exercises will be used as a great addition to warming the team up before taking on the opposition.
I've been exposed to Novelty Dots for long enough to realise I can't safely get any older without it.
My favourite leisure activity is snorkelling and scuba diving. Within a month of starting Novelty Dots, I noticed improvement in my ability to feel safe carrying my equipment while traversing slippery rocks to and from where it's deep enough to begin snorkelling or diving.
After 20 years as a Personal trainer, I was in need of a new challenge to expand my understanding of the brain and body relationship.
Coming across approaches highlighting the multi-layered importance of the cerebellum within the brain and body relationship, sparked and fuelled a new curiosity.
Then, armed with this new approach, it wasn’t long before existing clients were exposed to homemade metronomic Novelty Dots clips.
Once they experienced for themselves how beneficial these simple-looking, but challenging movements are, the feedback was consistently about the family members or sporting clubs who would also benefit from this approach of keeping attention on metronomic movement patterns and reactions.
All of this, along with a nudge from a fantastic mentor, gave me the impetus to create what is now known as Novelty Dots.

The research of neural inputs and their benefits to calming or focusing the brain to improve individual performance is well reported. While the collective presentation of these exercises is unique to Novelty Dots, there is no original claim to any of the individual exercises.
With this in mind, it is only right to acknowledge and thank those who have come before us by providing courses or free insightful content to the broader community: AMN Academy, Z-Health, GMB, Strength Side, and The.Brain.Guy.
When you subscribe to Novelty Dots, you gain access to a comprehensive tool designed to enhance your brain-body connection:
Extensive Content Library: Over 50 unique exercises spanning 9 categories of input, ensuring constant novelty and challenge for your brain.
Clear Guidance: Each exercise includes its own introduction and demonstration clip, so you'll always know exactly what to do.
Personalised Workouts: Create custom playlists from our extensive exercise library to suit your specific goals and preferences.
Track Your Progress: Utilise our built-in interactive global movement test to record your results and track improvements over time
Unlike a traditional exercise program, Novelty Dots is designed to help your brain see its own body with greater clarity.
We achieve this by making the brain pay more attention to what it’s trying to do with its body while interacting with the movements. The movements fall into three main categories:
Capture: Moving in time to a rhythmic pattern.
Flow: Accurately copying a dot in motion.
React: As the name suggests, reacting to random challenges.
Novelty Dots works on Android and iOS smart devices. While home PCs are adequate for most functions, our Global Movement Test specifically requires a touch-screen display.
It's worth noting: The larger the screen you use, the bigger your movements will be, which can more effectively stimulate the brain
